Second Saturday Stars

John J. McCarthy Observatory

The Story

Bringing people together under the stars. Every second Saturday of the month, the John J. McCarthy Observatory hosts a public star party to promote science literacy. I regularly produce and deliver astronomy lessons at these star parties.

The Strategy

Make astronomy accessible, enjoyable, and exciting. Focus on telling true, dramatic, and astounding stories about our universe. Deliver real science concisely and memorably. Stay enthusiastic, humble, and engaged with the public.

The Significance

Building and leading a community through curiosity and passion. I work with volunteers and experts alike to kindle excitement for science and storytelling. Together, we produce new lessons and new content every month.

STORIES THAT INSPIRE AWE

Of all the topics I covered, our closest neighbors in space probably made the biggest impression. I designed these lessons to be highly visual and engaging for curious people with no background in astronomy, whether they're eight or eighty.
